Chairman Husband, Too Boorish - 178
Chapter 178 : If he doesn't come, I won't eat anything.
The woman in his arms had red eyes, her hands
tightly gripping the side of his shirt, so tightly that Liang Xi Cheng felt his
entire shirt was stretched taut. She tilted her head back, speaking to him
almost with difficulty, but deep in her clear eyes, there was more than just
resistance; there was intense pain.
Liang Xi Cheng felt his breath catch, a bitter
taste spreading in his chest.
He knew that everything she said was true. He
was the selfish one. To her, he was wrong. All her questions about him were
correct. If it were her, could he understand, could he yield, even if with
ulterior motives, letting her walk into another man's arms. Could he remain
unmoved? Even support her?
No one could do that. Where in this world does
such a saintly figure exist?
But what could he do?
He couldn't let go, that's why he couldn't be
at ease. Being entangled with her caused her pain, and he wouldn't feel any
better either. But at least, she was by his side ...
Liang Xi Cheng held her slender waist tightly,
speaking in a hoarse voice, "... Be good, don't say things like that. I
don't like it, Yan Liang ..."
"Liang Xi Cheng! You can't be so selfish!
Just because you don't want to hear it, doesn't mean I can't say it. Just
because you don't like it, doesn't mean I can't do it. What do you take me for?
A puppet on strings? You think you can't let go of me, so you keep pulling me
like this, tearing my soul apart. You don't even care?"
"..."
"Let go, let go ... I beg you, I can't
accept that my husband is marrying another woman. Don't make me believe you
anymore. It's not that I don't to trust you, it's just that I don't want to be
dragged into this vortex again. Please, spare my life. I'm so sad. I feel so depressed
every day. I don't want to spend every day watching the news about you and Ye
Qing, constantly thinking about my husband, the man who always said he loved
me, whether he was eating with that woman ... sleeping with her? Shopping with
her? Or worrying, wondering if you would say those things to her too ... those
things you once said to me. Even if you tell me later that you were just being
insincere, what will that change? I'm not a saint, I'm a person, with flesh and
blood. If you don't want to drive me crazy, let me go. I'm willing to have a
peaceful divorce with you. I don't want anything. Go marry Ye Qing and do what
you should do."
Liang Xi Cheng's features were cold and stern.
He shook his head. He couldn't even imagine the pain of losing her.
Although it had only been a few months, during
that time together, he felt her presence had become an inseparable part of his
very being. Before marriage, their path had been arduous; after marriage, their
journey hadn't been smooth either.
He knew it was difficult for her, he had
always known, but it was precisely because he didn't want to let go that things
had come to this point. Why, now, did he have to let go?
Liang Xi Cheng gripped her wrist, saying each
word clearly, "Stop talking, Yan Liang. I won't let you go. You have
almost a year left in England for your studies. Just stay here obediently,
okay? A year is enough. I promise you, after a year, I will give you a clean
and honest Liang Xi Cheng."
Yan Liang just cried, struggling but unable to
break free. He couldn't reason with her. Liang Xi Cheng didn't want to stay at
Rex's for long. He had brought men with him, and since Yan Liang wouldn't
cooperate, he had them forcibly remove her.
"Get Madam into the car, don't hurt
her." The two tall, burly bodyguards in black were momentarily at a loss
for what to do.
Yan Liang watched Rex come down the stairs,
bit her lip, and, not wanting to say anything more, shook off the two
bodyguards and said coldly, "I can walk by myself."
She obediently got into the car because she
knew she couldn't escape Liang Xi Cheng's control now.
Seeing her get into the car, Liang Xi Cheng
finally breathed a sigh of relief. Looking at Rex, he couldn't resist lighting
a cigarette, taking a drag, before saying, "Thank you. I'll remember the
favor."
"You two were arguing downstairs; I could
hear everything from upstairs," Rex frowned, picking at his ear, and shook
his head. "Are you really going to do this?"
He pointed to the car outside and sighed,
"This girl has quite a temper. What you're doing is backfiring. I think
you'd be better off letting her go ..."
"I won't let her go."
Liang Xi Cheng interrupted Rex without further
ado, frowning, taking a deep drag on his cigarette. The smoke from his thin
lips obscured his refined yet somber features.
Liang Xi Cheng, who always appeared invincible
in front of others, was now filled with sorrow in his eyes. He seemed unwilling
to hide anything from his friend; his hoarse voice was tinged with pain,
"Let her go, but when will I be able to catch her again? I'd rather she
hate me than let her leave my side. I know it's so unfair to her, but who's
fair to me? Painful entanglement is better than letting her walk out of my
world alone, never to return."
"…"
Rex reached out and patted Liang Xi Cheng's
shoulder, finally saying, "Love is a damn strange thing," he said.
"I'm seeing it for myself now. A tough guy with a soft heart. There's not
much I can do for you, but I know she needs a few days to process her emotions.
Don't worry, I'll talk to King later. She doesn't need to go to SGA these days;
King can tutor her again. Actually, she's made great progress in the past five
months. Back in City A, she's already a promising talent."
Liang Xi Cheng nodded, tossed the half-smoked
cigarette into the ashtray, and waited until the smell of smoke dissipated
before getting into the car.
The woman in the back seat was quiet. She kept
her eyes downcast as he got in. Liang Xi Cheng didn't intend to say anything to
her at this moment and instructed the driver to start.
The journey was peaceful, the car unusually
quiet, yet an invisible pressure emanated from the silence.
Soon, the car pulled into an unfamiliar
residence.
After getting out of the car, Yan Liang
finally spoke, "Where is this?"
Liang Xi Cheng dismissed the two bodyguards,
then grabbed Yan Liang's wrist. The two walked one after the other into the
entrance of the residence, where a row of people stood neatly. Liang Xi Cheng
loosened his tie, saying, "From now on, you'll live here."
"I don't want to!" Yan Liang's
resentment surged again, and she broke free from his grasp. "Why did you
bring me here? I want to stay where I used to be! I still have classes, Liang
Xi Cheng, what exactly do you want? Are you locking me up? Are you planning to
marry Ye Qing and then lock me up? Aren't you going too far?"
"Yan Liang, I'm not locking you up. Too
many people know about the place you used to live. I don't want anyone to have
contact with you during this time."
Liang Xi Cheng frowned, trying to explain,
"Why are you thinking of locking you up? Wherever you want to go, I'll
have them accompany you. You're so emotional right now, how can I let you stay
there alone?"
"..."
Yan Liang's face turned pale with anger, her
hands clenched tightly at her sides. "You think you can just let me live
here because you don't trust me? Did you even ask if I wanted to? Liang Xi
Cheng, do you never ask me if I want to do anything? You always do whatever you
want, thinking you have a reason? What about my reasons? Where are my reasons?
Why do I have to accommodate you? Now you want me to accommodate you marrying
another woman? You're a complete bastard!"
"You're too emotional. Let's not talk
about this now, okay?"
Liang Xi Cheng rubbed his aching temples. His
phone rang again. His face darkened. He glanced at the number, his expression
turning even more grim.
He didn't answer, nor did he hang up, letting
the phone ring before tossing it onto the sofa.
Just then, Yan Liang glanced at it and saw the
caller ID.
"... Don't refuse to answer. I'm giving
you space. You can answer it slowly!"
Yan Liang sneered, turned, and went upstairs.
Liang Xi Cheng naturally wouldn't answer the
phone. A feeling of irritation overwhelmed him. He glanced at the time; it was
almost time to return. He couldn't stay in England for too long. Bringing Yan
Liang here was, in fact, the worst-case scenario he had already considered.
He knew he couldn't avoid his marriage to Ye
Qing. If he wanted the Liang family to completely turn the tables on the Ye
family, this was his only remaining path. Therefore, he knew that her
stubbornness would lead to endless arguments. But he had never intended to let
her go. In the end, this was the only path left between them—
She said she was keeping her locked up; even
if he didn't admit it, he knew in his heart that it was true.
He couldn't bear to let go; what else could he
do?
He beckoned to the servants and coldly
ordered, "Take good care of Madam. Make sure she doesn't lack anything. If
anything happens, notify me immediately. I can't come over for two days. Keep a
close eye on Madam lately. If she makes trouble, you don't need to come see
me."
"Yes."
Yan Liang had never imagined that one day she
would be trapped by Liang Xi Cheng.
3 days.
She had been counting down the days, lacking
nothing. The maid prepared three meals a day for her, a rich variety of dishes,
all her favorites. She knew it must have been Liang Xi Cheng's order. But she
lacked freedom.
Her phone, computer, nothing was with her. She
didn't have to go to class, couldn't contact anyone. This house had a large
study. The maid, in broken Chinese, told her that the books in the study were
all provided by Mr. Liang, all related to architectural design.
Before, seeing these books might have excited
her, but now, she felt no desire whatsoever.
“Madam, dinner is ready.”
That dull voice came again from outside. Yan
Liang felt that all she did these days was eat, sleep, her head spinning. She
knew Liang Xi Cheng wasn't in England; he was in City A …
What was he doing?
With Ye Qing?
They were getting married. Were they trying on
wedding dresses? Taking wedding photos?
She didn't even have wedding photos when she
married him; she'd never even worn a wedding dress in her entire life since
marrying this man …
She felt a pang of sadness. Things she used to
take for granted now felt sharp and piercing, cutting right to her heart.
She shifted, realizing her legs were numb from
sitting on the windowsill. Yan Liang slipped on her slippers and went
downstairs. She saw a table laden with food, a long table, but she was alone.
Seven or eight servants would stand behind her as she ate.
“… Mr. Liang, did he say when he'd be coming?”
She sat down, asking expressionlessly.
The head servant immediately stepped forward,
respectfully saying, “Madam, the master called yesterday. He's been quite busy
these past few days and won't be able to come for a couple of days.”
Yan Liang nodded, picked up her chopsticks,
moved them slightly, then put them down. She didn't eat anything, her eyes
lowered, and calmly said, "Go call him now and say I want to see him. I'll
eat whenever he comes. If he's too busy and can't come, I won't eat either.
Understand?"
The maid, "…"
This can't go on. Yan Liang knew that Liang Xi
Cheng brought her here because he didn't intend for her to leave easily, but
she never expected him to lock her up here. These annoying maids, watching her
every step of the way, she couldn't go to class, couldn't go out, and was stuck
in this house every day, while he wasn't here.
She had to leave. She didn't want to stay here
for even a minute longer!
***
City A.
Liang Xi Cheng had just finished a meeting
when Guan Jiu rushed over and handed him his phone. "Chairman Liang, it's
a call from England."
Liang Xi Cheng nodded, went into his office,
and answered the phone. Listening to the report from the other end, his
expression shifted between anger and uncertainty. Finally, he hung up, tugged
at his collar, and then instructed Guan Jiu outside to prepare; he was going to
England.
Guan Jiu watched Liang Xi Cheng's tall figure,
thinking about how Liang Xi Cheng had been working day and night on that
project. His handsome features, though showing no signs of fatigue, were
increasingly showing less and less of a smile, and the weariness between his
brows was becoming more and more apparent.
***
15 hours later.
It was already past midnight in England when
the sound of the large iron gate slowly opening made Yan Liang in the bedroom
instantly open her eyes.
She hadn't drawn the curtains when she went to
sleep, so she could clearly see the car lights in the garden. She got up, ran
to the French windows, and saw a familiar, tall man's figure bending down to
get out of a car in front of the garage on the first floor.
She pursed her lips, went to the walk-in
closet, grabbed a coat, put it on, and then turned on all the lights in the
room before quietly waiting for the man.
About two minutes later, she heard steady
footsteps approaching from the doorway.
Yan Liang took a deep breath, looked at the
door, and then saw it being pushed open from the outside.
Liang Xi Cheng assumed she was already
resting, but when he came upstairs, he noticed the light was still on in her
room. Knowing she usually only turned on a small light when she slept, he still
came in to check. Sure enough, he saw her standing in the room, seemingly
waiting for him.
They hadn't seen each other for three days.
When they met again, the emotions in their eyes were different from before.
Their expressions were different, as if a mountain had been placed on the line
that had once connected them, blocking their feelings.
"Why haven't you eaten?"
Liang Xi Cheng frowned, rubbing his aching
temples. His eyes were bloodshot, a sign of exhaustion.
